Through the holidays arranged in Ethnographic Museum “Etar” everyone can sense the ancient spirit of the traditional way of life, remember that he or she is Bulgarian and feel the true Bulgarian essence.
One of these holidays, accompanied by joy and playfulness is Midsummer Day – one of the most important summer holidays. In the day of the summer equinox many folklore groups from the country perform come here to perform the rites, songs and dances characteristic of the holiday. The visitors here are allowed to wriggle through a Midsummer day wreath for health, watch how maidens’ wreath are being braided and even try and make one by themselves. All through the day the air above the museum smells sweet of fragrant herbs. Those who are curious to know more about the herbs are given the opportunity to learn about the qualities and secrets of those scenic remedial plants. The visitors here can also meet with prominent herbalists and healers. On Midsummer Day many researchers of the herbs and traditional medicine gather Ethnographic Museum “Etar”. They come here in order to participate in the traditional scientific conference dedicated to the “Herbs and traditional remedial practices”.
