According to the traditional beliefs on this day the sun turns towards the winter. The people wold climb on higher hills and watch if their shadows were whole. This is a sign for good health. On the eve of the Midsummer Day the women would pick up green spray for each member of the family. If it remained fresh the person would be healthy during the whole year. On the Midsummer morning the mothers would make their kids pass three times under a garland of goose-grass for good health. Young and old would roll in the dewy meadows, they wash and bathe in the forest streams, as this is believed the Sun also bathes this day.
